Thieves target family support charity

Operation Community Hamper (OCH) has had overwhelming support from the community following a break-in.

Items donated to the charity, which supports local families and individuals in need across Bristol,  were stolen from a domestic garage. Among the goods taken were nappies, a breast pump, children’s toys and games, and raffle prizes intended for upcoming fundraising events.

Charlotte Churchill, founder and CEO, said: “We were deeply saddened by the incident, and the irony of a charity supporting families and individuals in need being targeted was certainly not lost on us.”

Despite the setback, the charity has been overwhelmed by the response.

“What has shone through since is the incredible generosity and compassion of the people around us,” Charlotte added.

Fundraising efforts have also been nothing short of inspiring. A team of five supporters took on the 10Y Fan Challenge, climbing Pen y Fan ten times within 24 hours. Battling extreme weather and exhaustion, they raised over £2,200. Another supporter represented OCH in the Bristol 10K, raising more than £350.

OCH is preparing for its second Quiz Night, which will take place on Sunday June 14 at the Masonic Lodge in Keynsham. Teams are welcome to enter for £5 per person.
