Scaffolding could soon be put up outside Cossham Hospital in Kingswood in order to carry out urgent investigations and roof repairs.
The works will focus on the clock tower, including an invasive structural condition survey. The hospital is located on Lodge Hill and is the highest point in Bristol. The clock tower is a distinctive landmark, visible from the surrounding area.
Two of the columns at the top of the tower show signs of deterioration. This needs closer inspection with “selective opening-up works”, so an engineer can assess the condition of the concealed structure. The results will determine the scope of any necessary repairs. The hospital opened in 1907 to serve the rapidly expanding community of Kingswood.
