THE charity Baby Bank Network has set up a partnership with Bristol Airport to reuse pushchairs and prams that have been left behind by passengers.
Under the scheme, any pram or pushchair that is unclaimed and meets safety standards is stored in a purpose-built shelter at the airport until the Baby Bank team can collect them and pass them on to families in need – preventing them from being dumped in landfill.
Between June and August this year, Baby Bank collected 48 good quality prams in ‘excellent’ condition, with an estimated value of £4,880, which are being passed on to local families.
The partnership came about with support from Business in the Community, a group which connects businesses with partners to help local communities.
Baby Bank Network Bristol chief executive Becky Gilbert said: “Reuse is central to what we do – taking good-quality, pre-loved items that would otherwise go to waste and passing them onto families across Bristol.
“When we found out how many prams were being discarded, it felt like the perfect opportunity for collaboration.”
