We will remember all who served

People across the area are preparing to mark Remembrance Day this month.

Thousands of people have been buying paper poppies at various outlets, in particular Asda at Longwell Green, where sales help Bitton & Oldland Royal British Legion branch to raise extraordinary sums every year.

In Bitton, an impressive cascade made up of more than 2,800 poppies knitted and crocheted by local volunteers is on show at St Mary’s church. Services will be held there and at other churches and war memorials on Sunday November 8 and on Armistice Day, November 11.

Hanham’s war memorial will host a service starting at 10.45am on the Sunday. Kingswood & Hanham branch of the RBL will take part in the Kingswood parade alongside the town council and We are BS15, with a procession starting at 2pm from Cecil Road car park to the war memorial in the grounds of Holy Trinity Church.
