A group of cyclists have raised more than £50,000 for St Peter’s Hospice by completing a charity bike ride to Paris.
Among the 26 riders was Gill, from Longwell Green, who was taking part in memory of her husband, who died last year. The couple used to ride tandem, so for her first big ride without him members of the Tandem Club came along to the hospice in Brentry to see Gill off.
The team made their way to Portsmouth where they caught the overnight ferry to Caen. They pedalled through the French countryside before reaching Paris and completing a celebratory lap of the Champs-Élysées in front of the Eiffel Tower. In total the group cycled over 450km in four days.
Hayley Ali, community fundraising manager at St Peter’s Hospice, said: “Congratulations to our epic riders who have completed this challenge and raised an amazing amount. Each rider had different motivations and levels of cycling experience, with many cycling in memory of a loved one. They all came together with the common goal of supporting the hospice and the camaraderie was wonderful.
“Together, this small group of supporters have almost raised enough to fund the work of the entire Hospice for two whole days, which is an achievement to never forget.
“This journey wasn’t just about miles, it was about making a meaningful difference, and they did it brilliantly.”
St Peter’s Hospice supports patients in Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire, providing inpatient care as well as community care to those with life-limiting illnesses. It costs £30,000 to run the Hospice every day and the charity relies on money raised through fundraising, its shops and Gifts in Wills to continue its work.
To help reach the £60,000 target supporters can donate at Bristol to Paris 2025 on JustGiving.
The next St Peter’s Hospice cycle challenge will be the flagship Tour de Bristol in April 2026.
