Bitton and Oldland remember

BITTON AND OLDLAND ROYAL BRITISH LEGION

The Garden of Remembrance at Panes Green was dedicated by Branch Chaplain the Rev Steve Britton on October 24 and the exhortation was spoken by Colonel Jon Beake,  Commandant of the Bristol Army Cadet Force. 

The first wreath was laid by the Chair of Oldland Parish Council, Councillor Martin Farmer, the Last Post was sounded by Rob Tyley and Andy Down was the Standard Bearer. 

During the following fortnight poppies were sold at many locations including Asda, Aldiand B&Q. The total raised by the Bitton and Oldland Branch to date is over  £30,000 a record for this stage in the year. Dawn Harrill, the Poppy Appeal Organiser, sends a thank you to all who gave and to the many volunteers who collected.

Remembrance Sunday saw well attended services across the area and finally on Armistice Day itself at 11 on 11 November children of the Meadows School in Bitton held a service at the Bitton War Memorial when they recited ‘In Flanders Fields’ and laid Poppy crosses each inscribed with one of the 48 names on the memorial.
