A GROUP of young rugby players, some of whom have been playing together for a decade, are raising funds for their final junior tour.
Keynsham Rugby Club’s under 15s aim to raise £4,000 towards their tour in the Netherlands in October.
Their parents are supporting the 24 players’ efforts. One said: “The U15s are a fantastic team who have worked unbelievably hard this year. This tour is an amazing opportunity for our players to grow and make memories that will last them a lifetime, as well as celebrating the bonds they have developed over the years.”
The boys, along with 15 parent and coach volunteers and four furry friends, undertook a 15k sponsored walk from Bath Rugby Ground back to Keynsham Rugby Ground.
After completing the walk in about three hours, they were welcomed back to the Rec in Keynsham by parents, who had been continuing the fundraising with a tombola, cake and sweet stand for all the age groups to enjoy.
Over 300 players below the age of 16, train and play matches each week at the club.
A club spokesperson said: “We are incredibly grateful for the support of our team parents, and for the generosity of strangers – including one very kind man who donated the lads £100 as we walked along the cycle track! “
The club is grateful to Uber Plumbing and MJ Patch Engineering Ltd for sponsorship of the tour and is keen to hear from any other businesses able to offer raffle donations or sponsorship. The fundraising page is at tinyurl.com/4525bd9c
