Residents and staff at Kingswood Court Care Home enjoyed a memorable day on a fishing trip to Boyd Valley Lake in Bitton.
The trip was organised by activities coordinator, Shayla Sharmeen, and head of maintenance, Adam, a fishing enthusiast.
Adam set up the fishing equipment while residents took on the important task of choosing the bait. After some patient waiting, their efforts were rewarded when they caught several fish, including some impressive carp.
For resident John, the trip brought back memories of fishing with his friends and family. For 94-year-old David, it was the first time in his life that he’d been fishing.
He said: “This was something completely new for me. I am always happy to try new things. Thank you to Adam and Shayla for arranging this day.”
Attila Lengyel, general manager at the home, said: “It was wonderful to see our residents enjoying something that was so meaningful to them. Fishing brought back special memories for some, while giving others the opportunity to experience something completely new. It was a fantastic day and a great example of how we can support our residents to continue doing the things they love.”
Shayla added: “It’s so important that activities are not just about filling time, but about understanding what each person enjoys and creating opportunities that have real meaning.
“When those big carp started coming out, I think I was almost as excited as the residents! It was a fantastic day.”
