Bitton’s annual church fête takes place on September 5 in the Glebe Field next to the churchyard, as well as in the church itself and in Church Farm, next to the church. There is free parking and entrance to the fête is £2 for adults and free for children. Gates open at 1pm.
This year’s fête will be opened by Bitton’s new vicar, the Rev Ness Brunner-Ellis, following a musical number by the Bitton Dawn Chorus, the village community choir, who will also have performance slots through the afternoon. The organisers are also pleased to welcome back The Bristol Morris and Prof Hudd’s Punch & Judy to provide traditional entertainment.
The aim of the fête, say the organisers, is to provide a great afternoon out for all – with something for all ages and all family members. It is a it is a lovely place to meet old friends and enjoy yourselves in a familiar setting.
There will be lots to do too. If you are looking to pick up a bargain, there are great stalls selling items new and pre-used. There’s a children’s tent, games and this year, a Silent Disco. For car and motorcycle enthusiasts, there will be a display of classic cars and bikes for inspection.
This year’s Dog Show will be run by Kelsey’s Pad of Oldland Common
The event always attracts a lot of lovely dogs – even those who are not competing will be most welcome. Food and other refreshments will be well provided with a food court offering fresh pizza, barbecue and pulled pork; and, of course, there will be a licensed bar. Teas and cake will be served in the church itself and delicious cream teas in Church Farm.
And as tradition demands, the fête will not end without the Great Bitton Egg Throwing Contest, when real eggs are thrown between partners – who will catch the egg or finish in an eggy mess.
Entry and programme are £2 for adults – children get in free. Food and the bar will be open from 1pm and the fête is expected to close by 5.30pm at the latest.
