SCREENINGS of a film about the climate crisis are planned this month in Kingswood and Hanham.
The People’s Emergency Briefing will be shown at Holy Trinity Church Hall on September 10 and at Hanham Community Centre a week later.
Both showings of the 45-minute film will be followed by discussion of the issues raised.
The film is a condensed version of the National Emergency Briefing, presented before an audience of more than 1,000 invited guests at Westminster Hall in London earlier this year.
According to the organisers, the briefing presents scientific evidence showing that climate change is already contributing to more frequent and severe extreme weather events around the world, including floods, wildfires and heatwaves. It also highlights opportunities to strengthen the UK’s economy, resilience and quality of life through timely action to reduce emissions and adapt to future climate risks.
The Kingswood screening is from 7-9pm. Admission is open to members of the public. The campaign is also calling on the UK Government to deliver a nationally televised public climate emergency briefing led by independent scientific experts.
