Amazing support for cancer charities

I would like to acknowledge how amazing the community has been in supporting the cancer charities Bowelbabe and CRUK and Abbie Collings and Daniel Money and their families. Over £140,000 has been raised as well as significant sums for Birmingham Hospice, St Peter’s Hospice and Dorothy House.

Friends and families and people of Keynsham and surrounding area are asked to continue their amazing support for Abbie and Daniel’s fundraising again this month. Two coffee mornings are being held at Keynsham Cricket Club on Friday April 17 for Bowelbabe and on Friday April 24 for Daniel’s CRUK Fundraising Page.

The coffee mornings will add to the fundraising efforts of five locals who are running the London Marathon on Sunday April 26. Paul Collings, his brother Mark and friend Rich Wheeler are running as part of Team Bowelbabe. Paul’s wife Abbie is currently receiving treatment for Stage 4 Bowel Cancer. Daniel’s brother Joe Money, and Daniel’s friend from Wellsway Tom Jenkins, are running for Daniel’s CRUK Giving Page. Daniel died of Stage 4 metastatic bowel cancer aged 27 in September 2025.

Rich Wheeler will be running the London Marathon in full firefighter kit and has already organised charity car washing. The next Charity Car Wash is on Saturday April 4 at Hicks Gate Fire Station; Rich will be running on a treadmill in full firefighter kit for 6 hours while  volunteers and firefighters wash cars.

As reported in the Voice last month, Paul will be running his second London Marathon on April 26.

He said: “Abbie’s cancer is being kept under control as a direct result of Cancer Research’s breakthroughs over recent years. Since her treatment commenced, Abbie has faced every setback with incredible strength and positivity. She’s a true and such a positive inspiration to Mark, Abbie and Paul Collings and Nicky (Mark and Paul’s sister) everyone who knows her.”

Daniel started his Cancer Research UK Fundraising Page in February 2023 after he was diagnosed with Stage 4 metastatic bowel cancer. He grew up in Keynsham, went to Chandag and Wellsway Schools, then studied medicine at Birmingham University and qualified as a doctor in July 2021. Daniel died in Birmingham Hospice on September 11, 2025, aged 27.

There have been over 50 fundraising events for Cancer Research UK held in Daniel’s name. The most recent was a Race Night, organised by Teresa Phillips, which raised £2,720.

Abbie’s and Daniel’s families and friends are amazed and humbled by how generous the Keynsham community has been in supporting them, not just through donations and fundraising events, but throughout their cancer journeys.
