New event springs up

Residents of Bitton and the surrounding area are invited to discover the wide range of groups, organisations and small businesses serving the community at a Community Fair taking place on Saturday 18 April, from 10.30am to 1.30pm, at St Mary’s Church and Church Hall, Bitton.

The new event builds on the strong community spirit already seen at Bitton’s popular Autumn Fayre and Fête, which attracts large crowds each year. The event has been created in response to interest from residents who would like more opportunities to discover the many clubs, groups and activities taking place locally, as well as those who are interested in creating new ones.

Jim Heavens, one of the organisers of the event said: “There are so many groups and organisations in the local area providing sports, recreational and other services, but often people just don’t know they are there. We hope that the community fair will give them a real opportunity to talk to people and help visitors get involved.”

The fair will take place in both the Church and the Church Hall in Church Lane, where visitors can meet stallholders, ask questions and explore opportunities to get involved locally. Entry is completely free for both visitors and stallholders, with refreshments available in both venues.

As well as information stalls, the fair will also include a fun baking competition to find “Bitton’s Best Young Baker.” Children and young people up to the age of 16 are invited to bring along homemade cakes, breads or traybakes to be judged during the event, with a small prize for the winner.

Twenty local groups and organisations have already confirmed their attendance, with space still available for a small number more. Local organisations interested in taking part, as well as residents looking for more information, are encouraged to visit the church website at www.stmarysbitton.org.uk, which also includes details on hiring the church hall.
