Children at Cherry Garden Primary School have been enjoying the great outdoors this summer.
They have been glad of the shade in the school’s Magic Forest, where areas have been developed to make them more wildlife friendly.
The development has been supported by families and by the school’s parent teacher association, who gathered together to help clear parts of the site.
The forest now includes an outdoor reading library, a fence and a platform in the school’s pond, where pupils have enjoyed pond-dipping.
“This has come at the just the right time for the children to use during the summer term and as the school continues to develop its outdoor learning provision,” said deputy head Vicki May.
The learning doesn’t stop when classes end though. Children and adults in the extra-curricular gardening club have been visiting ‘That Plant Place’ each week to learn about how to look after and grow different plants and have even grown some to take home.
Dean, from the plant nursery, also visits the school site to work with children all year round.
