Lift Broadlands in Keynsham is set to unveil a £20,000 dance studio in September as part of a wider programme of investment to transform the school’s facilities.
As well as enhancing provision for students, the studio will also be available for community hire for dance, yoga and fitness classes. It will be created by converting the current gym space, with the fitness suite being moved to ensure students continue to benefit from high-quality sports facilities alongside a dedicated performance space.
The development is part of a programme of improvement, with more than £1.5 million invested since 2023 in upgrades including toilet refurbishments, boiler replacement, fencing, resurfaced car parking areas, and extensive internal makeovers such as flooring, decorating, and improved learning environments.
Further works are planned, including roofing improvements, and investment in the fabric and safety of the building.
Alongside the physical improvements, the school is also developing its creative offer further, subject to an external funding bid. Following the success of its first whole-school production in more than 20 years, Matilda, plans are under way to enhance lighting, sound and production facilities to further strengthen drama and performance opportunities for students.
