2025 was an excellent year for Frys Bowls Club not only on the green where we won the Bristol and District League Division 3 title and the Triples League Cup, but also in moving the club forward by running a number of events both for the community and our own members.
In April we had an open day to celebrate the renovation of the outside of the club, where we entertained numbers of dignitaries including the Chief Executive of St. Monica Trust and his team as well as Local Councillors, members of Somerset Bowls committee and our local friends “The Unstoppables”.
In early May we put on an event for the Tenant farmers of St. Monica Trust, which the farmers really enjoyed.
Throughout the year the club has put on events for members including the annual BBQ, where we had the Oldland Ukulele Club band, which bowls club members Don Goud and Geoff Kershaw are a part of, and also featured our own Stephen Day sitting in on the bass guitar. The band went down very well along with the two race nights which are always popular.
The Club entertained “The Unstoppables” in the summer where all enjoyed themselves.
The Club has also had some excellent singers at the club in Chris and Victoria who both went down well with the members with some enthusiastic sing-alongs. The Christmas coffee morning is planned for the December.
Thanks for all these events go to the Social Committee and other Club members who have worked hard to put on the events.
The Club through the Green team have also had a good year maintaining the Green where we have one of the best greens in the local area and for the first time since 2018, the club entered the Keynsham in Bloom competition. Congratulations to the Garden team who won a Silver Gilt award.
Along with the league match on Thursdays and Fridays, the club played a large number of mixed friendly matches on Wednesday afternoons, weekends and the ladies on a Tuesday and Thursday. The weekend friendlies saw Fry’s win 12 matches, draw 2 with 5 losses. The Wednesday’s saw 10 wins and 10 losses, but a shots difference of +70. The ladies team continued their progression. They won over 50% of matches putting out full teams each game. Thank you to those who organised the matches this year.
Plans are now under way for next year. There will be a delay in events in January and February as the club is being decorated. Our thanks to St. Monica Trust.
We wish all members and friends of the club a happy and peaceful Christmas.
